The Movie Meditation
It is fairly easy to recognise other people's personality yet one's own? Movies can help to make our personality visible to ourselves. Following are some hints on how to recognize yourself on the screen.
What you see is yourself
Watch the story on the screen as if it was told about yourself. It is your own! How absurd the hero's adventures may look to you, the monsters they have to fight with, monsters that will never cross your way - you may think. Yet, experience the situations with totality. Watch and observe yourself while following the story. Realize where you feel uneasy while watching the story. Observe situations where you loose conciousness and those where you stay alert.
Most probably you will encounter similar situations in daily life. The monsters may look a little more human, they may be in uniform or sit in the office nearby. Still, the fears are the same, also the desires. Similar as in the movie there is always the possibility to change the situation. The hero searches and finds a new way, this is the adventure. This is in the movie as well as in daily life.
While watching movies attentively it is possible to uncover one's own patterns and realize them also in daily life. Recognizing your own patterns will sharpen awareness in certain situations where personality habits are most active. We get to know our ego strucures.
Good movies will make us alert what is happening in our daily lives. There is no intention to change nor to improve the personality but to get to know oneself and perceive one's own patterns. This is what is happening in meditation.
